To be a driver for Sewell Motor Express, you must:
Have a current CDL (HAZ MAT certification is a plus).
Be at least 23 years of age.
Have 2 years of recent verifiable tractor/semi experience.
Pass a DOT physical, and drug screen.
Have no more than 3 moving violations in the past three years.
Have no criminal record or felonies.
Fulfill the functions of the job as a professional driver.
Meet DOT requirements; deliver on time, be safe, and be legal.
Have no prior record of DUI in commercial motor vehicle or personal vehicle in the past five years.
Orientation
All approved applications attend a one on one orientation, you will:
Pass a DOT drug screen
Take a road test
Pass a DOT physical
Receive training on Sewell policies and procedures
Equipment
Our fleet currently includes conventional Freightliners, Peterbilts and Internationals with standard 10 speed transmissions. Our entire fleet provides air ride suspension, air ride cabs, AM/FM cassette stereo, air conditioning and power steering. Our trailers are 53-foot dry vans and 48-foot flat beds. All of our equipment is maintained by our in-house shop.
Miscellaneous Pay
At various times of the year, Sewell Motor Express offers different incentive plans. These may include but are not limited to: referral pay and recruiting bonuses. Please check with the Sewell Safety Department for current promotions and details.
Pay Scale
Vans pay up to 25.0% of Gross Revenue
Flatbeds pay up to 27.0% of Gross Revenue
Layover Pay
We do our best to minimize layovers. We will make every effort to make sure all loads are ready. However, when a layover occurs, Sewell will compensate you. Drivers are paid $100.00 layover pay after the first 24 hours. They receive an additional $100.00 for each 24 hour period thereafter.
Loading / Unloading Pay
While a large percentage of Sewell freight is "no touch", sometimes a drive will have to assist in some fashion. Loading and unloading freight is paid at a rate of 100% of the negotiated rate with the customer to the driver. Typically loading and unloading pay will range from $50.00 to $75.00. Some customers that require additional assistance may pay more.
Vacation for Company Drivers
Paid vacation time is accrued by the following schedule:
After one year continuous service - 1 week paid vacation
2 - 9 years continuous service - 2 weeks
10 - 15 years continuous service - 3 weeks
16 + years continuous service 4 weeks
Health Insurance, Dental and Vision
Sewell Motor Express pays a portion of your Health and Vision Insurance cost; the unpaid portion will be the responsibility of the employee. Sewell has this set up through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Full coverage includes a prescription drug card. Health Insurance eligibility begins on the first day of the new month after 90 days of service.
An additional Vision Service Plan (VSP) is offered at the employee's expense. This coverage would also begin on the first day of the new month after 90 days of service.
Dental coverage is with Delta Dental and is also at the employee's expense. Dental eligibility begins on the first day of the new month after 90 days of service.
AFLAC supplemental insurance is also available at the employee's expense. AFLAC supplemental insurance eligibility begins on the first day of the new month after 90 days of service.
Life Insurance
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield offers basic Life Insurance at no cost to the employee.
Retirement Plan
After completing one year of service, company drivers are eligible to participate in our retirement plan starting at the next enrollment date. Investment packages are offered through Lincoln Financial Group. Employees can set contribution levels of their gross earnings on a pre-tax basis.
