Sewell Motor Express is a privately owned, dry van / flatbed truckload carrier. Founded in the 1920's by Howard Sewell Sr. Sewell got its start operating as a small LTL (Less Than Truckload) carrier and household moving company servicing the Southwestern Ohio and Wilmington Ohio area. As the company grew Sewell Motor Express expanded its hauling area through the use of regular and irregular route authorities. In 1948 Sewell Motor Express became an agent for North American Van Lines and expanded its household moving into a national and international position. By the 1960's and 1970's Howard Sewell Jr. had taken over as President and made the company a major interline carrier for other LTL trucking companies servicing the southern Ohio area.

With the advent of "de-regulation" in the early 1980's Sewell Motor Express expanded into the Truckload, Flatbed and warehousing business. As de-regulation forced more LTL carriers out of business, Sewell Motor Express increased its Truckload business. Today Sewell Motor Express is mostly a dry van truckload carrier.

Sewell Motor Express has remained a family run company. Since the untimely passing of Howard Sewell Jr. in 1998, the company has been passed to a third generation. Jay Sewell is now President. Acting CEO is Janet Sewell and Vice President is Leslie Sewell Williams.

Sewell Motor Express has grown to a fleet of nearly 150 tractors and over 300 trailers. By providing outstanding shipping service to manufacturers and users of building materials, animal feeds, heavy machinery and a host of other products, Sewell has become a carrier serving customers across the United States while keeping our "family oriented" roots.
